Dean Wyatt creates multi-layered abstract paintings that are rich in color and texture.
He draws much of his inspiration from the weathered landscapes and turbulent skies of his native southwestern Oklahoma.
Unlike traditional landscape paintings that set out to capture a specific moment in time, Wyatt says of his work, “I consider these works to be composites of what one might see over a period of time—a combining of the colors and shapes that pass before us. Through these works I explore themes of transition and the passage of time. I want the pieces to be in motion.”
His work has been exhibited in galleries in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico and has been selected for solo exhibitions at the Oklahoma State Capitol and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
Dean is active in the Oklahoma arts community, serving for 16 years as the board president of the Tulsa Artists’ Coalition and currently on the executive board of the Tulsa Arts District Business Association. He previously served on the boards of directors of the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition and the Tulsa Ballet.
